I recently finished reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT
Rating: 4/5 stars
"A timeless tale that will captivate readers who appreciate stories of redemption, self-discovery, and the transformative power of kindness, making it a perfect fit for anyone seeking a heartwarming and stimulating holiday classic."
First of all, I believe this book has a very clear message. The story revolves around Scrooge, who is an arrogant, selfish man who is quite heartless, and only thinks of himself. He hates Christmas, although we do not get a reason why he hates Christmas I believe it is based on his qualities of arrogance that blind him to the love of the holiday season. Then he has a run-in with Christmas spirits of the past, present and future, which changes him and reminds him of the meaning of Christmas.
I adored this read, perhaps precisely because of how simplistic its message is. There are no metaphors, no hidden messages, although I love those like crazy with all of my heart, a simple story has its own charms. The message about Christmas, and charising it in our hearts is beautiful. Even though I am not Christian I felt the joy of the season as I read, and it helped that it was Christmas Eve when I read a good portion of the story. The message about the spirit of Christmas that arises from helping others reminded me of how Muslims are advised to act on Eid, and I drew connections between the two holidays.
This was delightful to read, and I am so glad I did.
Check out A Christmas Carol, and discover what happens when you visit the ghost of Christmas.
Happy Reading :)
