Dark Reflections

This is the OwlCrate July 2024 box. This box has items in it inspired by Percy Jackson, Spinning Silver, Brothers Grimm, Gideon The Ninth, and a multiple book-inspired item. These books have been added to my TBR if they weren't already there.

This is the theme card as well as the spoiler card on the back. I thought that the artwork was pretty and minimal.

What is a fantastical without the best companions to tag along? This metal bookmark is the third in one of the new 2024 collections. This collection features all the wonderful, brave, and loyal creatures that are sure to make your reading journey extra special.

This month's bookmark features the friendly Blackjack from Percy Jackson and is beautifully designed by Saiyre Art (@saiyre.art).

Write your own fairy tales in the new journal inspired by Grimm's Fairy Tales. The artwork features different easter eggs of fairy tales that the Grimm Brothers created, and the pages inside are blank for all your creative ideas. This journal was beautifully designed by Mia Carnevale (@carnemia).

Featuring quotes from Where the Dark Stands Still, Juniper and Thorn, and For the Throne, these Twisted Enchantment highlighters are perfect for both annotations and art and are filled with sparkling ink. This set has been lovingly designed by Teresa Chen (@divineliterary).

Elevate your charm game with the Spinning Silver inspired zipper charm. This charm is perfect to clip on your bag as a cute accessory, featuring art by No One Designs (@no0nedesigns).

The enamel pin in the collection: Perfect Pairings. Each month's box includes a sliding pin featuring characters that pair together in the most fierce, intense, and romantic ways- all designed by Saiyre (@saiyre.art).

The 7th perfect pairing is inspired by Gideon the Ninth, featuring the dynamic Gideon and Harrow.

The July book, Sleep Like Death by Kalynn Bayron, features a fairy tale retelling of the classic Snow White story with a twist. We meet Eve, capable of communicating with animals and conjuring weapons, and trained to kill the dreaded Knight that cursed one of her mothers. As Eve gets ready to face him and stop his torment of the villagers, she notices her mother the Queen acting strangely and talking to herself, and she must figure out a way to save her mother and the kingdom before it's too late.

This signed edition features a gorgeous redesigned exclusive cover created by Fen Inkwright (@rosdottir). Turn over the cover for the reversible dust jacket with beautiful artwork by Harkalé Linaĩ (@harkalelinai). On the hardback, they have some striking foil designs done by Yeatasmin Shiropa (@the.pearledreader). Inside you'll find gorgeous end pages done by @nicole.deal.art. Finally, an author letter and bonus content from Kalynn Bayron has been bound into the book for subscribers!

Overall, the July 2024 Box, Dark Reflections items fit the theme so well. I was delighted with each of the items, and the thought that was put into them regarding the theme, and inspired books to meet it. My favorite item this month was the sparkly highlighters. There is also a Spotify playlist, the differences between the original and exclusive cover designs, interviews, books related to the book of the month, and other excellent July releases can all be found in the themed packet.

August's theme is Falling For The Shadows and is a story full of dangerous secrets and mysteries. After losing her parents in a mysterious attack, the protagonist is determined to solve the case, despite grappling with intense survivor’s guilt. She moves overseas to live with an estranged relative at their ancestral home, where she uncovers family secrets and suspects a connection to her parents’ deaths. With mounting mysteries and suspicions, she realizes the attacker may be closer than she ever imagined.
