~POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT~
Rating: 4/5 stars
"Serena Paris is orphaned, pack-less, and one of a kind. Coming forward as the first Human-Were hybrid was supposed to heal a centuries-long rift between species. Instead, it made her a target, prey to the ruthless political machinations between Weres, Vampyres, and Humans. With her enemies closing in on her, she has only one option left—if he’ll have her.
As Alpha of the Northwest pack, Koen Alexander commands obedience. His authority is so absolute, only a fool would threaten his mate. It doesn’t matter if Serena doesn’t reciprocate his feelings; nothing will stop him from keeping her safe.
Mate stars Misery’s best friend, Serena, who is half werewolf, and is isolating herself for many different reasons. She has just had a really hard life and doesn’t know much of her past, but has recently received news that has made her harbor many secrets that are very much building up inside her. Oh, and the alpha of the northwest pack, Koen, is her mate, but they are both choosing to just accept that and not attempt to form any sexual or romantic relationship - Serena, because of her secrets, and Koen, because he has taken a vow of celibacy to prove his pack will always come first, and both of them truly just need to focus on the danger that is slowly coming for them both.
But the thing about werewolves is that sometimes you only want your mate to help you with… certain things. Which leads to making the sexual tension build up in this, so insanely good. Like, some of the best “forbidden” edging (for lack of a better word) I’ve read in a long while! Koen was truly sexy and really did make me wonder why I haven’t been reading more werewolf romances. I will say, I did enjoy Bride more, but I still really recommend this one, and I can’t wait for more in this series.
Check out Mate and discover what happens when the only thing that can help you is your mate.
