I recently finished reading Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber. This is book #1 in the Once Upon A Broken Heart series.

*POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT*

Rating: 3.5/5 stars

"How far would you go for happily ever after?

For as long as she can remember, Evangeline Fox has believed in true love and happy endings...until she learns that the love of her life will marry another.

Desperate to stop the wedding and to heal her wounded heart, Evangeline strikes a deal with the charismatic but wicked Prince of Hearts. In exchange for his help, he asks for three kisses, to be given at the time and place of his choosing.

But after Evangeline’s first promised kiss, she learns that bargaining with an immortal is a dangerous game—and that the Prince of Hearts wants far more from her than she’d pledged. He has plans for Evangeline, plans that will either end in the greatest happily ever after or the most exquisite tragedy…."

Jacks is all I care about. If this book was in Jacks’ perspectives I would've eaten that shit up and probably rated it higher. I don't know where I sit with this book. I liked it, but like I kept having on and off feelings with Evangeline. She was naïve and annoying in certain parts. I didn't really like her that much.

So basically Evangeline Fox has a love dilemma and makes a deal with the devil. The ending was a little full. There was just a rush of plot twists which weren't super crazy but still weren't great. I just expected a strong ending but it wasn't as good as I hoped. It was fun though. There was a lot that happened and I wasn't bored while reading it. I have my theories and I want to know if I'm right so I can't wait for the second book.

The sexual tension was crazy like nothing super spicy happened but the tension. The tension had me internally screaming. But what can you expected from someone who loves a good dagger to the throat vibe.. Still kind of thought there’d be more development though, but it is the first book and it's a series so I didn't really expect it.

I wouldn't say I'm underwhelmed, but it didn't reach my expectations. I just thought this would be like 5 star worthy, but it was still fun. It was really easy to read and it wasn't long.

A quote I really enjoyed was:

Heroes don't get happy endings. They give them to other people.”

Check out Once Upon A Broken Heart, and see if you get your heartbroken or not. Check book #2 A Ballard of Never After expected in stores September 13th, 2022.

Happy Reading :)
