Power Has A Price

This is the OwlCrate October 2023 box. This box has items in it inspired by Once Upon a Broken Heart, The Nature of Witches, The Priory of the Orange Tree, The Poppy War, and Howl’s Moving Castle. These books have been added to my TBR if they weren't already there.

This is the theme card as well as the spoiler card on the back. I thought that the artwork was pretty but it was lacking in the creativity that I wanted. In other words, it could have given more.

The October book, This Dark Descent by Kalyn Josephson, features an unlikely group working together to win a cutthroat-enhanced horserace. Readers find a horse breeder, a black-market enchanter, an ambitious heir, and his brood friend joining together to make sure that they win the enchanted horserace. This is no ordinary horserace, as the odds are stacked against them and no one can be trusted, not even each other. This signed edition features a gorgeous redesigned exclusive cover by @anta_arf. Turn it over to view the reversible dust jacket with beautiful artwork by @rhymes.y. They also have wonderful stenciled edges adorning this book by @carmen.dmdesign. Beneath the dust jacket, @divineliterary has created a stunning foil hardcover design. Peek inside to view two gorgeous exclusive end pages by @spookgiest and a designed signature page by @divineliterary. Overall, the October 2023 Box, Power Had A Price items fit the theme so well. I was delighted with each of the items, and the thought that was put into them regarding the theme, and inspired books to meet it. My favorite item this month was the ceramic spoon rest. I am so excited to read about the enchanted horserace that is featured in the book. There is also a Spotify playlist, the differences between the original and exclusive cover designs, interviews, books related to the book of the month, and other excellent October releases can all be found in the themed packet.

November's theme is Perilous Travels, and is a historical fiction fantasy set in nineteenth-century Egypt, that’s filled with adventure and danger. Our protagonist yearns for answers surrounding her parents' tragic deaths. After inheriting their massive fortune and being stuck with a mysterious guardian and his annoying but handsome assistant, she soon discovers there is more to their disappearance than those around her have led her to believe, but will she discover the truth or become a pawn in a larger game?
