The Dark Devours

This is the OwlCrate December 2023 box. This box has items in it, inspired by Kingdom of the Wicked, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Fourth Wing, and 2 fandom neutral items. These books have been added to my TBR if they weren't already there.

This is the theme card as well as the spoiler card on the back. I thought that the artwork was pretty but it was lacking in the creativity that I wanted. In other words, it could have given more.

The faux book journal is the final in the 2023 collections. Featuring in-universe references, each journal will be sure to transport you to a different literary universe. This month's journal pays homage to Daughter of Smoke and Bone and has been designed with love by Lichen and Limestone.

They are bringing Wrath and Emilia together in a whole new way with the stunning pen set. Inspired by Kingdom of the Wicked, this pen set is the perfect duo to annotate your favorite books, and is beautifully designed by Blissfully Bookish.

Cozy up for the winter season with the most comforting Night Owl Hot Cocoa. Perfect for the nocturnal owls that stay up reading through the night, this is also ideal for the holiday season. This delicious blend is created by Moonstruck Chocolate.

Everyone has been asking for it and here it is. For the 2023 OwlCrate pin collection, they've included a Treasured Tomes Pin banner. They've created a banner that is made to appear like a bookshelf to hold the beautiful bookish pins from the past boxes this year. This pin banner was wonderfully made by @no0nedesigns

This month's treasured tomes enamel pin is the twelfth in the 2023 pin collection. Each month's box will include a book-styled pin featuring in-universe references to many beloved books and fandoms- all designed by @no0nedesgins!

The December book, To Kill a Shadow by Katherine Quinn, introduces us to Jude and Kiara, commander and knight who travels to the darkest part of the land to save their kingdom, where they face nightmares beyond imagination.

This signed edition features a gorgeous redesigned exclusive cover by Lynn Nguyen (@pyrrhics) with stunning blue sprayed edges. Turn over the cover for the reversible dust jacket with beautiful artwork by @panjoolart . On the hardback, they have some striking foil designs done by Niall Grant (@niallcgrant). Inside you'll find gorgeous end pages done by Jennifer Phujarit Ponn (@imjenndove). Finally, an author letter and bonus material from Katherine Quinn has been bound into the book for subscribers!

Overall, the December 2023 Box, The Dark Devours items fit the theme so well. I was delighted with each of the items, and the thought that was put into them regarding the theme, and inspired books to meet it. My favorite item this month was the pin banner. I love being able to display the beautiful Treasured Tomes pins. There is also a Spotify playlist, the differences between the original and exclusive cover designs, interviews, books related to the book of the month, and other excellent December releases can all be found in the themed packet.

December's theme is Enchanted to Meet You, and is full of scandal and secrets! Our main character enters a whole new world on an incredible opportunity, only to find herself having to deal with a prickly prince betrothed to someone else. To top it all is the anonymous columnist who spreads word of her connection to the prince, only stopping if she helps uncover the royal family’s secrets, risking her dreams and the possibilities of love.

I hope you all enjoyed this review of the December 2023 OwlCrate box. I enjoyed my read of To Kill A Shadow, and am excited to use all of my themed items, some as decorations on my shelves!
