I recently finished reading For She is Wrath by Emily Varga. This is OwlCrate's YA November book.
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT
Rating: 3.25/5 stars
"Three hundred and sixty-four days.
Framed for a crime she didn't commit, Dania counts down her days in prison until she can exact revenge on Mazin, the boy responsible for her downfall, the boy she once loved—and still can't forget. When she discovers a fellow prisoner may have the key to exacting that vengeance--a stolen djinn treasure--they execute a daring escape together and search for the hidden treasure.
Armed with dark magic and a new identity, Dania enacts a plan to bring down those who betrayed her and her family, even though Mazin stands in her way. But seeking revenge becomes a complicated game of cat and mouse, especially when an undeniable fire still burns between them, and the power to destroy her enemies has a price. As Dania falls deeper into her web of traps and lies, she risks losing her humanity to her fight for vengeance--and her heart to the only boy she's ever loved."
Dania has spent a full year imprisoned for a crime she didn't commit and kept alive only by the thoughts of the vengeance she will enact on the one who put her there. An unlikely, albeit uneasy alliance is formed with a fellow prisoner and the duo flee the prison and attempt to shed the pain from their time there. They take on new identities and all those who crossed them better watch their backs!
I enjoyed my time with this tale and this was largely down to both the colorful cast and setting. Dania and Noor were characters with similar goals but different personalities and I thought Varga did an incredible job of crafting them. Both felt alive; flawed and troubled but full of heart and spirit. The setting was cast with the same magical glow and I could really visualize each setting that they travelled to.
The actual bones of the story however felt a little lacking for me, in some areas. This was thoroughly enjoyable but as it progressed I started to guess at its trajectory and this lessened my overall enjoyment, somewhat. I still remained interested and impressed, but the lessened intrigue unfortunately made me drop a star rating.
Check out For She Is Wrath, and discover what happens when you are dressed for revenge.
Happy Reading :)
